Please note that not all of our dogs attend each Meet & Greet. If you are planning on coming out to see a particular dog, it is best to check our Facebook page the morning of the event to view the list of dogs scheduled to be attending. Before an adoption can be finalized, we will require you to sign an Adoption Contract. After that process, if there appears to be a suitable match we will contact you and proceed with the adoption. We will arrange for you to have a telephone interview with one of our volunteers. Please read our adoption information if you’re interested in adding Tommy to your family.
We are not a shelter, and we have no central location for the dogs we rescue. We pull dogs from various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of, such dogs.

We aim to assist via our social media posts, blog posts and YouTube series that can provide health and play tidbits. That cute little puppy you want to buy is from a puppy mill and yes, pet stores WILL and DO lie to you and will tell you whatever you want to hear to make the sale. In buying a puppy, you’re helping to keep puppy mills in business. During the telephone interview you will be asked to provide personal references and references from your veterinarian and dog trainer. If you do not own your home, you will need to contact your landlord or property management and confirm ability to have pets.
We cannot guarantee when a certain breed will arrive in our care or be available for adoption. To submit a breed specific request, click here for our online request form. Please also be as specific or as general as you like in describing the kind of pet for which you are searching. An adoption fee is required after the adoption is finalized. In most cases, the adoption fee is non-refundable, even if the dog is subsequently returned. However, in some circumstances we may feel it is appropriate to refund the adoption fee.

We kindly ask for your support even if you are unable to adopt at this time. Unfortunately we cannot hold dogs for a future adoption date. Holding an animal in a foster home would mean we'd have less space available for animals that are in life or death situations and need our help. If you are interested in a specific animal that is ready for adoption, you must be prepared to adopt right away. It is sometimes difficult for us to determine the complete history of our dogs. Therefore, we cannot always provide accurate information regarding the medical history, age or breed of a dog.

We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home. An adoption fee is necessary to cover the cost of spaying/neutering, medicating, and caring for dogs that often come from situations of neglect and sickness. We also pay the shelters a fee for every dog we rescue and sometimes have to pay a driver to transport them from shelters to our foster homes in PA and out of harm’s way. Without charging our own fee, we could not afford to do our work. Most PA county shelters get tax-payer funding and large corporate donations to support them so they can afford to let their animals go for a lower fee than we can.
Home At Last reserves the right to reject any application and reserves the sole right in determining the best placement for our dogs. The application is not a guarantee of any dog’s placement. You can complete our online adoption application with the name of the dog you are applying for. The adoption fee for puppies between 8 weeks to 6 months is $450 and for any dog more than 6 months old is $400. These dogs have a higher adoption fee of $650 and the additional fee collected helps fund expensive surgeries for medical dogs that we have. We only adopt out dogs that have been spayed or neutered to ensure that no dog adopted from Home At Last will be used for breeding.
We are a group of dog loving volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters, puppymills, as well dogs in other unfortunate circumstances. When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. Most of the dogs and cats presented on our pages have been rescued from the Animal Shelter in Berkeley, California and are now living in temporary foster homes with incredibly caring people.
Have your home set up to accommodate your new pet before it arrives (fences repaired, crate set up, supplies ready, etc.). It will help make the transition smoother for both of you. For a fee of $25.00, potential adopters can place a 24-hour hold on an animal they wish to adopt. The hold fee is not refundable, but will be applied to the adoption fee of the animal you placed the hold on. Holds are only placed on animals if you have an application on file. A credit card is required for holds placed over the phone. Thank you for your interest in adopting a shelter dog from Home At Last Humane Society. Placing the right animal into the right home is our top priority and we strive to make lasting matches for the animals in our care.

Make sure you have paid all deposits and fees before you adopt. The entire family should meet the animal before adoption, try to bring all family members. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.
If you are able to provide a foster home for dogs until they are adopted, please e-mail us for more information. Fostering is such a rewarding experience and is vital to our goal of placing rescued dogs into new permanent homes. Your current dog, we require a dog-to-dog meeting at our facility before finalizing an adoption. Just be sure that you have someone who can wait with your dog as you meet our adoptable pets if it isn’t appropriate weather to leave the dog in your car. We also ask that you fill out an Adoption Application, and a Pet Adoption Agreement to help us ensure that our animals are going to loving, stable homes. Please keep in mind that we are a non-profit organization and that your donation will not only help us to save more animals, it's also fully tax-deductible.

We provide all the information we have gathered, however we cannot always confirm its veracity. If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog, the first step is to look at our dogs currently available for adoption then complete and submit the AdoptionApplication. We are, currently, a foster based pet rescue that is always looking for the best outcomes for homeless and in-need pets. Whether they were abandoned, neglected or born outside the overwhelming majority can be rehabbed, fostered, loved and placed in a welcoming forever home.
